A letter from Kris Kobach, the vice chairman of a White House commission looking into voter fraud and other irregularities, is drawing fire from some state election officials. The letter, sent Wednesday to all 50 states, requests that all publicly available voter roll data be sent to the White House by July 14, five days before the panel's first meeting.

The information requested includes the names, addresses, birthdates, political party (if recorded), last four digits of the voter's Social Security Number and which elections the voter has participated in since 2006, for every registered voter in the country.

Kobach, who is also Kansas' Republican secretary of state, did not say how the commission plans to use the data other than to help it "fully analyze vulnerabilities and issues related to voter registration and voting."

__________

“Today the Commonwealth and the other 49 states received a lengthy request from Kris Kobach, the Vice Chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, requesting a list of all registered Virginia voters, the last four digits of their social security numbers, their addresses, date of birth, political affiliation, and their voting history. The Vice Chair’s letter also contained a list of vague inquiries about the election policies and laws of the Commonwealth.

I have no intention of honoring this request. Virginia conducts fair, honest, and democratic elections, and there is no evidence of significant voter fraud in Virginia. This entire commission is based on the specious and false notion that there was widespread voter fraud last November. At best this commission was set up as a pretext to validate Donald Trump’s alternative election facts, and at worst is a tool to commit large-scale voter suppression.

“The only irregularity in the 2016 presidential election centered around Russian tampering, a finding that has been confirmed by 17 of our intelligence agencies and sworn testimony delivered to several congressional committees. In 131 days Virginia’s Department of Elections will again conduct a statewide election for the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General, as well as 100 House of Delegates races and numerous other positions. I’m not going to divert resources that could potentially compromise that important work to enable this politically motivated and silly posturing.”

Think about the ways that data can be used aside from just reviewing them

How about helping recognize people that aren't voting for you or your party.

It's actually pretty concerning that they are asking for this information.

Oh man what nefarious things will politicians do with my phone number and address?

Well if they don't have my voting information it wouldn't assist them in the future if they did want to do something nefarious.

Republicans...freak out about registering their firearms...

But register my voting habits with the government..."yeah, that's fine".

Yes, lets dumb down the importance of voter information especially with this administration.

Do I believe that if this fucker believed he could get away with rounding up citizens that voted against him...he would? Abso fucking lutely. Trump has proven himself to be an unhinged nutbag that despises anyone that doesn't march lockstep with his insane ramblings.

not to mention, with your date of birth, full name and address...
you could piece together the remaining numbers of your SSN. At least to under 1000 different combinations.

with that info, i'd use 10 combinations a piece to sign up for credit cards all over the US.
