i have to agree, that is teh
I've tried VMWare on Windows to use Linux, but I've never tried VMWare on Linux to use Windows... Looks good.
Looks even better now that I figured out how to get it to run at 1024x768 in a window or 1600x1200 full screen
VMWare is pretty sweet
why not use VPN?
what does that have to do with anything?
i think he meant vnc
Either way, it's not the same thing as VMWare.
yeah vpn/vnc is remote access
vmware is pc emulation.
It's beyond emulation actually... It actually creates a fake computer inside my real computer and runs Windows on the fake one while I'm still running Linux on the real one.
my bad. i knew that.
virtual pc is the one that emulates.
I thought Virtual PC did the same thing VMWare does, just on Mac... Maybe it's changed since I used it back in the day
Wine is the big emulator on Linux... Works great for simple apps, not so great for anything major.
BTW, the VMWare runs incredibly well on this machine, so long as you're not doing anything incredibly complex (a fancy QuickTime app was too much for it). For the amount I use windows it's fine though
so how do you transfer files from lets say from linux to emulated windows?
You can set it up so that you can see your Linux drive as a network drive in Windows, or FTP into your Linux box from the Windows fake machine, since they have different IP addresses.
VMWare > *
After using the same fancy QuickTime app on my real Windows box (PIII 500), I realized it's just a terrible program and runs slow no matter what (it's the College Board's SAT Prep program).
I use vmware to run linux on my laptop for my operating systems class. I am writing a security file system for that thing. sure beats restarting the box when i can just turn it on/off easily through vmware.
I used to have a screen shot of me running winxp, with a XDMCP connection to my linux box, and then in linux I had a RDP connection to a Wink2k3 TS box.
My head hurts.
is VMware free for download?
There is a demo, I do believe.
unless you want to get technical, then WINE=WINE Is Not an Emulator
