Should I just wear ribbons or do the medals?
It's not like I have aton of medals either.
How many medals?
GC, GWOT, ND?
Go shoot until you get the pistol and rifle medals. Then you'll have five.
I'd say just go with the medals.
Are you talking about badges?
I have both of those.
Sorry, I was thinking Navy.
Wear your mess dress; much better for the occasion.
Edit: I have never seen anyone wear medals on blues, medals are for mess dress.
to Duncan: If he's not an E6, then he can't wear evening dress. Also, medals are for the dress uniform, miniature medals are for evening (mess) dress.
to OP: Since you have only three medals, you can easily mount them yourself. Blue Dress Alpha is when you wear medals, and is for formal occasions only. Anyone in the Corps will agree that your wedding day counts as a formal occasion. If I can find a decent picture host, I'll put up one of my wedding pics. You don't get a chance to wear medals often, so take it.
i always wear medals on my blues and so do many other Marines
You need to clarify which service you're in, there's a lot of confusion in this thread.

Well, this isn't the picture I thought I had, but it's the only one where you can see the hardware:
This is from the 2005 Birthday Ball. That's me in the Evening Dress uniform.
my brother wore his blues for his wedding years ago ... he was a Cpl and had like 3 or 2 ... dont remember but he looked good ... i look better in mine though,
if you love your core then fucking do it ...
hell it's not even about that
It's considered formal wear for a formal event. A wedding is a very formal event. It certainly does offer a really cheap way to avoid paying for tuxes if you just wear the uniform, and if the best man/groosman are also military then it looks good to have them all there in their uniforms.
Nothing wrong with wearing full dress uniforms, just make sure the uniform fits the season.
That said, I never would've gotten married in my dress whites, but dress blues on the other hand.
I'm considering wearing my blues to my wedding at the church only (pictures, etc), then switching over to a tux (jacketless) to boogie down with at the reception
yeah it does save quite a bit of cash ... and if you have several yarheads in the wedding as grooms men, minus well have an NCO at the end slap the bride in the ass with the sword "Welcome to the famiRRy" style,
Yep. That's my brother, and because I know him well, I counted myself lucky that I got him into a tux. At least the shoes were brand new, flat black with bright white laces. He could have shown up naked; I wouldn't have cared. As far as I was concerned, the only people that needed to be dressed up were me and the wife. Getting military escorts and sword detail was just a bonus.
My wife was an active duty Marine at the time, but she still got the sword smack
i dont think my wife would like it too well ... but i might try to swing it,
my brother is now in the national guard and there is no way he's wearing his uniform to my wedding and i wanna have all 3 of my brothers in it
Mmmm....... Marines in Dress Blues
My bad, thought we were talking about Air Force blues.
Bring on the hate, haha
