Any criticism is welcome
font here sucks. Doesnt fit in at all
you missed a spot on the top left of the border so it looks all pixilated
same with the bottom left
Thanks for the quick reply
I think the font is supposed to look like a newspaper print effect.
Im not sure im not the one designing it. I just own the restaurant and have to give the final go ahead on the design.
how much are they charging you?
this design looks pretty familiar...
Its going to cost about 1200$ with the photos, 5 domain names and server for a year I think. Yeah I knew it was a template copy from the beginning other wise He would have wanted more.
I like it.
1. Make the logo link back to the homepage
2. Make the "click here for map" link go to an internal page displaying the map, rather than linking to google maps.
3. Use divs, not tables
4. Validate the mark-up.
5. Use CSS rather than having a dozen entities.
6. Repost site when all the changes have been done and you have all the other pages up.
I didnt even take a look at the code yet... and accoding to most of my sites which are hooked up on google anylitics.. lots of people tend to click on logos.
Thanks for the advise I emailed them to the webdesigner. Next after this I will have to ask you guys for ideas on getting traffic to the website that dont cost much money.
I would consider paying $1200 for this template is a kind of a rip off for this site. It's not really a quality written site. It can be improved big time. However, I don't know how much work is involved with all the other pages. But from what I can see right now, based off the mark-up, various usability errors, I wouldn't be forking over $1200 for it.
In the signed agreement hes agreed to work with me until Im happy with the end product. Also that 1200 includes pictures . What do you think its worth? Its basically too late to go back now but so far Im pretty pleased with the design other than a few touches here and there.
- header graphic looks really low quality
- set of links at the top aren't aligned with anything, they're just floating there.
- again, get a map on your own page. it wouldn't be very difficult to set up custom directions within your site using google's api. (see script at http://www.knightlyfood.com/restaurant/Pita_Pit/39/ for what i mean)
Cool design nice and sleek . We are unfortunately on a budget so cant afford too much.
There are too many links in the navigation menu:
-move specials into the menu page
-get rid of links link(wtf would you be linking to?)
Also see if he can throw in a CMS for the menu, that way you won't have to learn HTML to update your menu/specials
I disagree. Its not supposed to fit in. It stands out nicely.
is this a joke?
I'm with you.
the pics aren't bad, but the lighting could use some improvement. if they were taken by you or a friend or somebody, read some web sites and rent a couple flashes or something. if you're gonna take pics of the place empty, make them enticing.
I know where this is I've eaten there!
I like it, but agree with the above changes.. and embedding maps is piss easy, takes a few minutes.. I made a crappy one that lets people find directions from their house in about 15-20 minutes of playing with the API..
Make the arrow icons less pixelated and also see if you can make that solid line dotted after the newsletter/location/reviews.
Hosting is dirt cheap; for a low-traffic site like a restaurant you shouldn't figure more than $50 a year, and another $10 for the domain.
The big cost is the design and modifications to it, and I have to say the page looks nice, but the menu options at the top are a bit boring. Spice that up and it would be great. Right now it's just "good" and not worth $1200. I've seen better designs done for $300-$600.
this is what he replied with about why he did the google map that way.
no problem, I can do that. The reason i did go with the external one was the google map link page has quite a bit of info about the restaurant and I thought we could add to this to provide even more info on the google page. people will click on it and see reviews, maps, currently 22 websites about portobello. I also opened the map link to a new window so that people didnt lose the original site and could go back to it easily. I also thought this might hel with our search rankings.
