anything that works on both platforms is going to use a just-in-time compiler... And the system-dependant compliler will play as much, if not more into the performance as the code you're running... So it's not a good benchmark unless your goal is to benchmark the jit compiler.
java would be the most popular example... So unless you want to benchmark the differences between the win32 and uni-binary jre's, then it's a lost cause.

marginally or significantly?
Depends what you're doing... For surfing the web, music, etc, it's marginal. However, for serious work, I'd say it's a good upgrade.
I wouldn't spend money on it, however.
