Subaru's have their brochures online. I thought it was understood that non-diesel boosted automobiles "want" premium fuel.
According to this, they recommend it.
yea, definitely gonna have performance issues w/o premium... May even start to ping/knock.
if you have boost, you need premium.
93 is best though.
They require and run fine on 91.
Some people such as myself still put 93 in our cars. I give my Legacy GT 93 because saving $0.02 a gallon isn't a big deal to me.
i put premium in mine
i put regular in mine. runs fine.. tho the engine has this weird noise when i'm idling like it's knocking on a door..... hmm whatever.
Oh, that's normal.
weird idling noise is a subaru thing. sounds like a diesel or something.
Subarus want 93, will run on 91 and if you run california gas on them, will often knock/ping stock.
should be better on the 2.5, though.
The boxer motors are prone to ticking, loud valvetrain but pretty much a non-issue in terms of reliability in performance. They're quirky but they're nice.
