I think Kirkman mentioned before that he had finished writing the screenplay, but the studio is just sitting on it. It's probably common in Hollywood.
There's usually a big gap between buying the rights and filming... if they ever get to that point.
The idea was optioned and bought by paramount, but it seems nothing has happened since that. They made the motion comics, but that is a whole different deal with image. Lots of properties are optioned for movies, but never see the light of day. I would be surprised if this even gets greenlit.
This is very, very common. Studios buy dozens and dozens of scripts and properties every year while only actually releasing about ten movies. Don't expect anything to come of this for a while.
i'd rather see a scifi mini series or actual series (maybe 3 with a movie in between seasons)
i.e. the first season ending with the cliffhanger of his dad
movie 1 - the fight between father and son and the threat of invasion
Thing is though, can you imagine audiences who are likely by and large unfamiliar with the character Invincible?
"Oh it's just a cheap Superman wannabe thing blah blah blah" .....
