any reason this is a hot item right now?
From what I've heard, because the 50 f/1.4 is nearly as good a lens as the f1.2 L but for a fraction of the price. Canon is purposely keeping them out of circulation so they can sell more L lenses. However that's just internet talk as far as I know.
but I'm hanging onto my 50 f1.4
I need one before I go on vacation end of this month
1/3 the price
99% of the performance.
Excluding focusing speed and ability to shoot at 1.4.
just ordered my nikon 50mm f1.8
i can't justify spending so much more for a 1.4 or 1.2
at least for my use.
saw some on potn. $260 iirc
bought mine used.. awesome lens!
Why would you NEED a 50/1.4?
Most boring lens ever
I have one, I like it. Good portrait lens, not much else.
and nice bokeh
but for what I use it for, the 50 1.8 works just fine
I just sold my 1.8 to buy the 1.4 go figure
I wanted something for low light should've kept the 1.8 a little longer I guess
If by boring you mean a lens that closely reproduces what the human eye sees, that is tack sharp, works wonders in low light and is one of the most widely used lenses then yes.
Had my 50 1.4 for 8 or 9 years, great lens. It's a little long for my 1D MK II but I'm expecting to go FF within a year or a little more. Waiting on a 5D MK II and to see what else emerges.
I need to send it in to get tuned up though, the AF doesn't work 100% anymore (gets stuck at the close focusing end)
Clearly he does.
seriously? fuck. i was going to buy one today & sell my 1.8.
I really hate 50mm on a 1.6x crop body though
I want to get the 35mm
I thought about that too the 35L is a little out of my league...maybe a 28 f/1.8
I fucking LOVE mine. Rarely comes off the camera.
I want the 85 next.
Might want to look in to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. If I got a Rebel for a small carry camera I might get that lens.
I've read the 28 F/1.8 is soft.
Anyone have it?
the same reason i was able to ebay my used 50mm f/1.4 for $280.
I dunno why the word "bokeh" makes me laugh
I'd either get the summilux, noctilux, or zeiss sonnar
