it used to work just fine...then i tested my ups the other day and noticed that i couldn't access it from the power options menu, it said the service wasn't started. i went to go start the service (it was set to manual) and i end up with this:

i guess it's fine because i use a cyberpower ups and the program that comes with it will allow me to test and make changes to how the ups performs...however it will not automatically put the system in hibernation mode when the ups is about to run out, it relies on windows power management to do that...

Try having windows run the application in "compatibility mode" as Win98SE or Win2000.

Otherwise, take a look at their website for a new XP install version.

Oni, it's a built-in service. There is no newer version.

I'd check at Microsoft.com then... Sorry, I didn't look hard enough.

    thanks

i guess i'll just let the server power off as the ups dies. we hardly ever have power outages and its my home server, so nothing critical.
the power options selection only allows me use it if its hooked up via com1 serial cable instead of usb. i don't know if my server even has a serial port
