In the past couple years, I've come across a few girls who like being choked during sex. Not really my bag, but hey, if that's their deal i'll go along with it. None of them have been girlfriends..all were hook ups. I know about the whole asphyxiation intensifying orgasms deal but is it also indicative of past abuse/problems?

I personally feel there is always an emotional reason for it, whether it's deeply rooted or whatever....but most people that love it just say they love it because it gives someone total control over them :dunno:

:eek3: i never thought about it that way. that could be the case for me. :(

i LOVE it when i get choked during sex... but not like the cant-breathe choking, just the firm grip of his hand around my throat.
yeah not crazy UFC chokeholds or anything, more like you've described

It's not clearly indicative of abuse. I, for one, Love getting choked since asphyxia can enhance the orgasm for some people. Also, i enjoy the mental arousal uf submitting to my partner and the trust it takes to really get choked, knowing he's not goign to hurt me..

I wasn't abused as a child, had a great up bringing, I just enjoy it as part of sex from time to time... And it's not just females that do this. Many males hold their breath or choke themselves during masturbation or ask their partners to smother or choke them.

kinda leads back to my original inquiry about past happenings?
Maybe. People have brought up choking in here before so I'll just say it's my opinion that there is a definite psychological reason for why they enjoy the choking...but people who like it tend to get really pissed when I say that :mamoru:

Some people are just sensation junkies, And at times it has little to do with past abuse, it could be positive experiences they have had that leads them to it too....

That's a really great way of putting it! It's hard for me to believe in all or even most cases though since the women (haven't met any men yet who admitted liking these things) who have told me they like being choked or love their bf's fulfilling rape fantasies were BATSHIT insane and chock full of issues.

I said the chicks I have known in my personal life. Sheesh! :mamoru:

Actually, the most surprising was from my best girlfriend not too long ago. Well I shouldn't even say surprising....she doesn't have a lot of "issues" necesarily, she's just by far the most submissive woman I've ever known. She's the kind of woman who would stay with her husband if he beat her. She said he started choking her though and she was "ok" with it. Didn't even love it, just kinda liked it, but I feel it's more something with her constant submissive state :dunno:

I've met some rather well adjusted people that had these fantasies. You have to think about how sex is portrayed in our media, how it's talked about inhomes and in schools. At time the only exposure to sex at all people have is what is in pornography and television, which a lot of the time in America is Sexual violence. When that's beaten in to your head and you DON"T see full on sex that is presented positively, you associate those ideas with you run of the mill sex.

Also Asphyxia is common in teena nd younger adults since we're taught that masturbationis wrong, we shouldn't be caught doing it, so they hold thier Breath to make less noise. over time, that hightened sensation of asphyxia during orgasm or near orgasm becomes a norm.

my ex used to love it. not even just during the act of actual intercourse.

she would want me to choke her during foreplay. to the point that she would almost pass out and then she would get wet as hell.

Sure, there may be some correlation, but that's certainly not always the case.

i know it's not hip to say but for the most part, my friends who are more vocal about loving it all have abuse in their past. of course i don't judge them, just something ive noticed.

That being said, yeah I have abuse in my past, and yeah I like being choked. Its not that I like being choked because I was abused, but more in SPITE of being abused. When we first started being sexual, I used to flash back to the things that were done and fear I would never be able to do those things without thinking about it. Over time I built up positive associations until I never thought about it. He's never been abused or even hit in his life, and he likes both being choked and doing the choking. Its a lot about power and trust by both parties. What can I say?

correlation =/ causation
