I don't know shit about them, what's a "good" sub $600 1911?
trigger, trigger, trigger, thin grips, thin grips, thin grips, grip angle, grip angle, grip angle, looks fucking sweet, looks fucking sweet, looks sweet while fucking
Check out the STI Spartan if you're looking in that price range. They used to be sub-600, now they're slightly more.
I use my slightly modified Spartan in IDPA and USPSA, and I love it.
EDIT: Some pics, because pics are always exciting.
Rock Island's worth a shit"?
From what I've heard, they're not bad. If you're just looking for a range gun, or to have fun plinking it wouldn't be a bad choice.
AO makes a good USGI M1911A1 (series 80) clone and its under $600 at buds
USGI ≠ Series 80, or Series 70.
For sub-600, Springfield has some good options: the GI, the Mil-Spec, and maybe the Loaded (if you can find a good deal on one; mine cost ~$700 though)
They're good, and bad, jgsales has em for like 400 bucks. I think they're good for a "my first 1911" Almost bought one last week but on a whim went to the local gun shop on black friday and spied a slightly used Charles Daly for like 300 bucks. all in all i'd say rock island is the bottom of the barrel in terms of price, but about midrange quality.
I wouldn't. I haven't heard very many good things about them. My SA was only $400 and it shoots great!
So I am more partial to Springfield.
EDIT: Any 1911 can be built to your specs no problem. Just time and more money.
I know everyone loves the pics of the Dan Wesson in the leaves, but isn't this going a little overboard?
Edit: I've never messed with a Spartan, but heard nothing but good about 'em for that price range. I almost got a RAA mega cheap that I would've put my .22 conversion on for teh permanent .22 1911. Guy decided not to sell at the last minute.
Edit2: Go to forum.m1911.org and do some readin'.
spend another hundred and get a SA Loaded
I've bought and sold Kimber Custom II's and Springers under $600. It can be done, just look around.
+1 to finding Kimbers < $600. Just picked up a Tactical Pro II for $550. Keep your eyes peeled.
That being said, you might be able to find a Colt Series 70 for around that if in well used, but well cared for condition. Great place to start if you're new to the gun.
A lot of people dog Taurus, but don't overlook the PT1911, if you get a good copy, it's a great gun.
Is there a similar pic of the dan wesson? Laurel took that pic at my parents' cabin. I doubt she's ever seen the dan wesson pic.
It's cool, don't get me wrong. Just looks like (Yar's?) Wesson-in-leaves pic.
Here's a question - Are there any 1911's on the market (new) that are trash and should be avoided?
I'll say that I love my Rock Island. It's been as reliable as can be, and it's more accurate than I am.
Oh yah. I couldn't remember. (Obviously.)
