RAF Bentwaters, back in the late 70's (it's been closed for a long time). cold water in the communal barracks showers, ftl. radiator heating that clanged and hammered, but didn't really heat, ftl.

come to think about it - all of the active duty bases I've ever served at are now closed. :o

Bentwaters permanent party barracks were much worse than the ww2-type transient barracks we stayed at after my Iraq deployment.

I haven't had to be in any terrible bases. There is always stuff to complain about with most of them but nothing was that bad.
Maybe the MC receiving building in Okinawa in the late 90's. It was old and filthy and was infested with big ass bugs. I stayed on hansen though and it was actually pretty nice. Schwab sucked from what a bunch of buddies told me but I think that was just because of a lack of women.

Hohenfels isnt bad. I was once stationed at a place called babenhausen in germany. It had a movie theater that operated 2 days a week. an abandoned bowling alley, a PX that i dont even know how to describe it. It was like a c.d. rack, a rack of mens clothes a rack of womens clothes, upstairs had uniform stuff and about 8 magazines to choose from. No restaurants (eventually it got a burger king and pizza place) it was home to 1 brigade that consisted of 1 battalion. At one time it had a couple of full brigades but they had long since been moved and the place was like a ghost town. It was full of sadness.

Oh and the brigade/battalion stationed there was a field artillery brigade, so we didnt even have women really. Maybe 8 female soldiers on the whole base and they got passed around a LOT

From what I hear, Fort Bliss, TX is terrible.
I hear Baumholder isn't anything special either. One dude told me he could count on his hands how many times he saw the sun it was so gloomy.

the trainees are scum but its not so bad there

the 3 mile loop dirt track, the marine mud challenge and the augusta 70.3 ironman arent too shabby for a mil town

I grew to like Kansas. I never will enjoy Fort Riley. I guess it's because I had shitty as hell leadership.
