Trying to write a resume and start looking for jobs since I get out in about 6 months. I know there are a few here that have gotten out and stuff, maybe you could give some advice on what you did on yours. I know there is some common stuff like don't write a 12 page resume, don't use a lot of military acronyms, etc.

How do you keep it down in length? I mean I've done a lot in the military that would benefit me getting a job I think, but keeping it down to a page, two at most has been a little difficult..

Bother putting you're personal awards on there? Like NAM's & higher? :hs:

You should be having a mandatory seperations class that covers resume writing among other things... I know it was one of the things that I had to do when I got out :dunno:

on deployment until ~4 months before i get out.. and who knows how long after that before I can get in a TAP class.. seeing as they're not mandatory you cant force them to let you go to one.

Au contraire, rumor I heard was that if your command doesn't send you to TAPS, then if you draw unemployment, it comes out of your commands OPTAR.

Thats what they keep telling us at work. But since I'm unsure of the validity of it, i called it a rumor.

I know they wont let me out until I go to SEPS/TAPS. Also I learned there that the VA has a service that will translate your military service into a great civilian resume.

TAPS was supposedly mandatory, but you could waive it if you were desperate:o.

find one of the websites that specialize in writing and converting military resumes. you'll have to pay a fee, but you get a good resume. i made one when i went through the army's outprocessing and everyone there said it was good, then i go to job fairs and people took my resume as a joke.

    pay the extra money.

We had the similar class in the Army. ACAP, and that is mandatory to take when you are ETS'n. It helped a lot.
