Who is actually stronger? Or is it comparing apples with oranges?
strongman for the most part. So much of Oly lifting is flawless technique and not brute strength
Strongmen will be stronger in a wider variety of lifts. Olympic lifters will be stronger in the olympic lifts. They're both stronger than powerlifters.
check out this high level american OL who switched to SM (good choice!)
look at the hip pop with a 470+ stone.. its hard for some guys to understand cuz they havent used stones, but being able to fling a 470 stone around like that is absolutely insane. he hasnt been deadlifting long and it's his weakest lift i believe.
hes the most explosive SM ive ever seen, besides maybe koklyaev (also a former OL, good choice on the switch too!)
Jesus, what a beast
Koklyaev is doing OL again. He is the current Russian super heavy weight champion and is probably going to Beijing this year; it will be an interesting battle between him and the other super Russian Evgeny Chigishev. Both of which are fucking beasts. Anyone who can snatch over 210 kg, is a monster.
With that said, each will be stronger than the other in their respective sports, unless you are Koklyaev, who is a monster. A better question, "who would be who be the better athlete? Which of the two require greater levels of athleticism?"
I am not dismissing the athletic ability of SM, but if you consider the technicality of the snatch, the athletic prowess required of the lifter, OL wins hands down. OL is all about the ability to generate force as quickly as possible, while SM is about generating force over an extended period of time. This is exemplified in the press out rules in OL; any hint of pressing out a jerk or snatch, leads to a red light. In strongman you "simply" have to complete the lift.
In the end, there is some translation between the two, but it is not unidirectional. All of the elements of OL can be applied to SM, but the main translation from SM to OL is raw strength. In the end, both focus on two different elements of strength.
marius is the most athletic strength athlete in the world imo. he can sprint 100m's very fast, he can run miles at a time (he often runs 3-4 miles/day on the beach, what 300+ pound athlete can do that?), he has a sick vertical, he is unbelievably strong.. hes pretty much the absolute epitome of a very athletic strength athlete. think he maybe gay though
I take it you saw his fabulous music video?
no I saw a video of him and another polish pro strongman sitting in a hottub together basically legs touching hugging it out. it was very weird, its in his DOMINATOR or whatever video
he's not gay...just european...them folks is weird over der...
