Any suggestions for a Canon body??
I've been debating over the Tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 or the Tokina 12-24 f/4....+/- about each would be fanstastic!
how about the canon 15mm fisheye
ohhh, and its a f/2.8! Thanks for the suggestion
For the record, the Tokina 12-24mm is not a fisheye. I've got one, and it's got some distortion, but not the raw circular image that you'd expect from a fisheye.
Get a fisheye prime. It's purpose made
15 fish is not really fishy on a 1.5/1.6 crop camera.
it only smells kinda fishy?
yeah, it's only 180degree on a FF... on a 1.5/6 crop it's more like a 24-200mm crappy zoom at 24mm. just starting the wa distortion... looks "wrong" imo...
fisheye on a D2X in sports crop is like a normal 35mm lens
I don't know if anyone's made a crop fisheye yet but that's what you would want... canon seems to be selling the 60mm efs macro pretty well so maybe they'll do an efs fisheye...
nikkor 10.5 ftw
that was a really really objective comparison !
a 16mm fisheye on a 1.5x nikon body, but in 2.0x mode suxor !!!!!
omgz the 16mm fisheye doesn't appear as fishy on a nikon in super crop mode !
- wait - wait - the 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye lens from Nikon, I wonder what that is for ... maybe it acts just like a 16mm fisheye does on film, but made for digital bodies ?
oh wait, it sucks on a nikon because super crop mode is always on !
if you want a fisheye, look into the peleng 8mm. i've seen some shots with that lens on a rebel and it still looks pretty badass.
if you're not looking for a fisheye and just looking for a wide angle, i highly suggest the tokina over the tamron but have heard that the canon 10-20 is much better.
Yeah, Viper did a wedding awhile ago with that. I think they turned out pretty cool.
The Canon 10-22 isn't bad, my dad's got it, but I find that it's got a lot more chromatic aberration than I'd prefer. Not a huge issue, since I can get rid of most of it in raw processing, but if you don't want to spend the time...
I'd still take the Tokina. But 10mm IS quite fun.
peleng 8mm FTW
I grabbed a zenitar 16mm f2.8 fish eye for my 350d the other day.. not particularly fishy.. but for $170 AUD, I can't complain.
manual focus is a bit of a bitch though.. will take a little getting used to. hoping to use it for some landscapes (and maybe defish it with ptlens) when I head to NZ next month.
couple of pics trying to get the fish eye effect happening.
IMO, you'd be better going the 8mm or so..
does anyone have shots with the peleng 8mm on a 1.5/6 crop body?
on your experience would it end up as extreme as this?
Sigma 8mm on a 1.3x body, it was a perfect circle on the film shots I took
compared to the canon 16-35L on a 1.3x body at 16mm
i think a 10mm is going to give me exactly what im looking for (good amount of distortion without having the black borders of a fisheye) any suggestions for 10mm eos mount? so far i've found 8mm and 16mm
no 10mm fisheye, its 8 or 15 right now, nikon has the 10.5mm
such a hard decision
viper, have you de-fished any of thoes whacky peleng shots?
edit: sorry, sigma
nope, probably going to just cut them out and do a circles image page. I don't even know where to begin with defishing them
