i keep seeing 5.11 shirts, 5.11 pants.
what does 5.11 mean, i can see its not the brand name...
It is a brand name...
one person may have rights to the brand name, but blackwater sells their own "5.11" pants and other sites have them from other brands.
Blackwater re-sells 5.11 gear, and they have Blackwater Logo 5.11 gear, but it still made by 5.11.
5.11 is a rating of difficulty in rock climbing. The scale used is called The Yosemite Decimal System.
Royal Robbins 5.11 pants started life as a rock climbing pant (hence the gear loop above the right rear pocket) but was turned "tactical" when groups such as the FBI started issuing them for their recruits and instructors in training. Now 5.11 is a separate division of Royal Robbins that makes clothing specifically for tactical applications rather than hiking/climbing/outdoor gear which is Royal Robbins’ focus.
