Hello Jonathan. I was referred to you by Casey's wedding planner from their April wedding!
My husband and I absolutely adored your bright cheery style of portraits and deep rich colors. As you know Robert and I are to be married in January and I would like you to be our photographer. I have a bit of an odd request, Do you have an Iphone? Robert and I use Instagram and Hipstamatic on our phones daily and love the styles we come up with. Would you be willing to take some of the photos with an iphone and have them included in the package or do you have an old film/polaroid camera you can use to get the same effect? Please let me know! I've done 'professional" work with my iphone. I was photographing a swim meet and the meet director wanted a bunch of facility shots and the widest I had at the time was 50mm (had just switched to Nikon), so I took them all with my iPhone 4 and he said they were great lulz.

I was walking around the facility with 2 D700s on my shoulders taking shots with my phone lulz.

Thats what one of the ideas was was sure if it'd work correctly, the other is to just use some LR presets to mimick it, not like its very hard as there are 11ty bajillion presets that do the same thing

Some I never considered... I dont want to devalue anything I do... using a cellphone would make me feel cheap while I have DSLR's and lenses strapped to me for use..


I'll be able to convince them not to do it and just have a family member hold the phone and do the snapshots.

Was not really my point, and my response was reactionary. That I agree. My point was more the "You have GOT to be kidding me!" title of this thread. As though, "OMG, some clients asked me to try something!"

Of course it's a silly fucking request. BUT THIS WHY PEOPLE HIRE PHOTOGRAPHERS. Because they know jack shit about photography and are smart and willing to pay for someone who does. The more ridiculous requests I get from commercial and magazine art directors the better in my eyes. I love when clients push me into new directions and not just hire me to "do whatever, we trust you." I like having a diverse portfolio and not a bunch of shit that looks EXACTLY the same with different people/subjects.

I think there are very easy ways to deal with it. Personally, I would just sell them a half-analog wedding and charge fuck ton for the processing. And explain the benefits why the film is the way to go to get the genuine look and why an iPhone won't work, which to be honest, probably would for what they want.
