Cheap Case, Sharp Edges = bloody fingers (and bloody stained HD's Graphics card etc etc etc)
Iomega USB Tape Drive, 2GB capacity. Took about 10 hours to perform the backup.
Pentium 4 EE 3.0GHz, couldn't keep the fucker cool with a DD water cooling setup. I could never leave the computer running and trust that it wouldn't burn the house down.
Macbook Pro, 2 weeks before the C2D's came out
msi 1036 laptop
Pretty much anything from D-Link.
That and a Geforce 5200FX. POS video card.
worse worse buy:
Cheap case. Huge, lots of breathing room but as big as it was the 3.5 mount was just barely enough room; 2 external and 2 internal. Side fan was 80mm and yet it was louder than all of my other case fans put together.
after thought worse buy:
I've got a Samsung 997DF 19" CRT monitor for $200 2 yrs ago. Great monitor, don't get me wrong. At the time I could have gotten a 17" LCD.
Looking back on it now, the way things are, I wish I had gotten that LCD. But now for the same price I can a 19" maybe a cheap 20".
Same here. Hands down the crappiest computer part I've ever purchased.
Hmm. I honestly don't know if I have any bad computer purchases; I'm very careful about agonizing over every purchase I make.
Maybe "Age of Mythology"? That game did kinda suck, Rise of Nations is a lot better.
toshiba laptop with vista (returned it)
Most of the parts i put into my current system.
back in the day........... Packard Bell.
I had one...50 mhz processor. That shit was amazing!!!
Worst purchase: Fantom Drives external USB hard drive. Backed up all 7 GB of my music to it, then (stupidly, I know) deleted it from my computer to save space...which was the reason I bought it to begin with. About a week into using it, access times slowed to a crawl, then shortly after the drive stopped working completely. Lost all of my music when I RMA'd it.
That's a tough one. Most of my hardware purchases have been worth it.
I built my C2D system last thansgiving day. Next day (yes, on BF) I went out and bought 3 games. BF2, FEAR, and Splinter CellA.
Played FEAR for about 10 minutes.
Just loaded Splinter Cell up and didn't even get past the intro stuff.
I did play BF2 off an on for a few weeks but it's not currently installed.
So a little over $100 worth of software for the new rig.
this piece of shit (internal version):
bought it at compusa as a backup solution, it crawled. got a 5 pack of disks, total came to over $150. i just found it the other day in my closet, all the pin are all bent up now,
also multiple zip drives (parallel port connections) + webcams + .3megapixel digital cameras and crappy scanners
when I was like 14, I wanted a PC to play duke3d...haah, yes this goes a long way back, and I didn't know shit about them
so my dad took me to a computer store that was recommended to him and they built us a cyrix (sp?!) machine and they told us it was awesome and would play duke3d like a charm as it was equivalent to the recommended specs on the game, and then some
we got hustled BAD...what a piece of shit that was..but we didnt know anything back then, barely knew how to speak english back in teh day
yea, cyrix was bad.
That reminded me of back in the early 90s when I used to sell computers and we sold Hyundai computers. Yes, Hyundai. They sux'd.
My worst purchases have all been from Belkin. Anything with that name on it I avoid like the plague. EVERYTHING I've bought with that name has quit working, never did work or had intermittent problems. Funny just replacing the components made by this company fixed so many problems.
Bluetooth Stereo headphones. Tried 3 different pairs, from 3 different companies, all blew moose chunks.
Cheap huge comp case:
flimsy, sides didnt lock, sharp edges, horrible air flow, and loud as hell.
Toshiba laptop lst year.. thing was a piece of shit. sent it in for service multiple times, multiple issues. DVD drive is going bad now and its out of waranty
tivo series 2, now i'm paying a monthly fee, and I have a box that is very outdated.
I should have waited and just got the dvr from comcast
What is outdated on your series 2? I don't think the comcast box does anything your S2 box won't do. Now the S3 will but it's alot more $$$.
I bought the lifetime for my series 2.
