 this shit is why i still download most of our shows from ipt even when i have, like paramount+ free because of tmobile... aint nobody got time to watch fuckin unskippable ads.
Between the slow move towards ads and the unbearable content getting held hostage behind a million different subscription based apps I'm ready to just go off the grid and live in the hills.

I dropped YouTubeTV years ago when they raised the price from $49. I am considering dropping YouTube music family since they are raising the price by ~50% from $14.99 to $22.99 next month.

would be lovely if they offered piecemeal plans. I mainly watch only a few channels but won't get rid of it due to all of the live sports that I watch :o

my folks have ota mainly just to watch local news and they like some of the network series (csi, bluebloods, hawaii 5-0), it comes through in HD and all they paid for was the antenna on amazon for like $30

local cable provider does the same thing but for like $100/mo
lmao fuck that

Yeah I get like 12 channels that come in perfectly OTA and then you have the sub channels like 7.2, 7.3 that look like dogshit but there's a ton of free content out there. You can also do shit like PLUTO tv

that same cable provider tried to do away with the old school cable tv hookups and move towards doing it all over the internet (which meant anyone who wanted cable now needed to also have decent internet which still isn't the case even in 2023), but it was a massive clusterfuck and so many residents and LONGGG time customers in that area were livid at how clunky it was.

oh and that company also laid off a bunch of locals in order to offshore those positions to the philippines because now that everything was getting streamed, they'd have less need for techs/CSRs/admin for the cable dept, woops

Why? Over the air survives just fine off the revenue and most cable is distributed over the internet now

not everyone can get over the air, it is a very limited market. they would have a hard time if they had as many subscribers as comcast/cable providers.

IPTV is now basically black market internet cable like youtube TV and Fubo but way more channels. You get like 3000+ channels from the US, UK, Canada and probably other countries. The service costs like $10-30/month depending on the provider. Do an OT search for iptv and you'll find suggestions on where to look for one.

you do have to be within range of antenna which is a big part of the problem.
